Aboriginal Head Start - Manitoba
The Challenge
The Aboriginal Head Start program brings incredible value to aboriginal children and their families. Their work helps in the development of the spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of these children. Due to the largely paper driven tracking and reporting processes used at the individual AHS sites, AHS staff had less time to work with the children and their families. AHS needed a way to minimize the time spent on these tedious, but necessary, tasks so that they could focus on the core of their work; helping aboriginal children.
The Solution
IDfusion proposed to develop an application with a relational database which would greatly reduce the amount of time needed to compile data regarding AHS site activity and service use. The outcome would be a distributed, secure, Web based application that would be utilized by all AHS sites within Manitoba. The application would improve not only the efficiency of the reporting process, but also allow for greater consistency and increase the accuracy of the data.
The Results
The initial release was launched and used by a pilot group of six Manitoba AHS sites. Feedback from this initial group of users was extremely positive. The application succeeded in dramatically reducing the time this group needed to generate their reports. As an example, the detailed Annual Operational Report required by the Region could now be created by any of the six sites with the click of a button. The data for this report was driven by the information entered through the stream-lined process created by IDfusion. IDfusion was able to utilize the feedback of the pilot group to rapidly change and improve the functionality of the application to better fit their business needs. The new refined application will now be deployed to sites across Manitoba.
