Société franco-manitobaine (SFM)
The Challenge
As part of the Société franco-manitobaine’s (SFM) mandate to promote and assist French-speaking communities throughout Manitoba, the SFM identified an opportunity to create an Internet portal that would be used by individuals within Manitoba’s French community as a resource for events, community organization or business directory information. IDfusion was chosen as the ideal candidate for this project, for both its technical expertise and its bilingual capabilities. Central to the project was the requirement that the software solution allow non-technical staff to quickly and easily publish content to the various sections of the site. Outside organizations and communities, many located in rural areas where only dial-up Internet access was available, also needed to be able to add or change content as required. Finally, the SFM required that the project be completed within a short timeline.
The Solution
Working with SFM staff responsible for generating the site’s content, IDfusion’s team was able to outline an effective strategy for managing key Web content. The Web based application that was developed provided staff with the ability to make quick changes to the site in addition to allowing communities and organizations to submit events and manage their own content. IDfusion also worked closely with the web site design firm contracted by SFM to ensure that dialup users would be able to access and/or modify the information as easily as possible. With such a wide demographic of users, it was also critical to ensure that the application was compliant with all browsers and platforms.
The Results
SFM staff can now quickly and efficiently update and manage all information presented on the portal without relying on outside technical staff. The staff is now saving up to three hours per week on the maintenance of the site’s calendar alone. Creation of the Web application has also enabled the SFM to provide an online version of their directory of French services and businesses (Annuaire) and allowed it to add new services such as an online showcase of local writers and artisans and a live chat room. This project, which would typically take up to 12 weeks, was delivered in half the time.
